After almost 15 years this first generation DL4 has finally died! I have to admit it lasted a lot longer then most of the early models. I wonder how much of these pedals does Dave Knudson go through?

I guess now I can get something even better!

Pictured above: Nate, the secret weapon of this record; my new best friend.
Well, we had aspirations to finish the tracking for the record today, but truth be told, we probably have about half a day of work tomorrow.  Then this record will be “done”.  If you’re unfamiliar with the process, here’s a very quick rundown of how most of the records that you know and love, are made.  Tracking (or the actual recording of the parts/instruments) comes first; mixing comes next, and if you track properly, the mixing should basically already be done for you.  Mastering is the last, and in my opinion most elusive, step.  The plan is to have all the tracking done tomorrow, and then we start mixing on Monday. We’ve had the most lovely person come in and track cello for the last few days.  It’s crazy to have someone so talented play on my record; Nate’s ability to take a note (like, “Think Ghostly”), and to be able to translate it into a real, audible feel is incredible.  I kept thinking to myself, “These string parts are the thing that are going to distinguish this record amongst my other releases.”  It makes every song sound more mature, more realized.  Basically, I can’t thank Nate enough.Okay, more clues as to what this record is sounding like:Life In The Sea - A watery, deep-dive with a nice 60s psych-pop sound. Very Beach Boys.Valley Of Gardens - The album’s overture.  Nate’s cello swansong.Infinity - “Hey, do you like Smashing Pumpkins?”You Said - A very fluid instrumental track, with a funky bassline. It Starts At The Water - A 140 BPM post-punk/synth jam. After a late night of DJing, and a long day of recording.  I’m ready to watch some TV and completely zone out.  Thanks for reading these, I hope this record will be as pleasant to your ears, as it’s been to record.
